Named one of Variety’s “Top Ten Comics to Watch,” Rolling Stone’s “Ten Comics to Watch,” Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch” (can you tell, Liza is one to watch) and a comic who 'shines where sex and politics intersect’ by The New York Times, actress, comedian and podcast extraordinaire Liza Treyger has become known in the industry for the characters she has brought to life on screen, and her biting, smart jokes that dance around hot button topics including sexism, feminism, and religion. This year, Liza can be seen in Netflix’s new comedy series “Survival of the Thickest” based on Michelle Buteau’s best-selling book. The series (starring Buteau) follows Mavis; a Black, plus-sized stylist who is determined to not only survive but thrive in her newly single life. Liza shines as Jade on the show, which also stars Tone Bell, Tasha Smith, and Garcelle Beauvais. “Survival of the Thickest” premiered on July 13, 2023. In film, Liza can next be seen appearing in “Goodrich” alongside Michael Keaton, Mila Kunis, Andie MacDowell, and Kevin Pollak, with the film returning Oscar nominee Keaton to his comedic roots. Born in the former Soviet Union, Liza came to the United States when she was just three years old with her parents and older sister. The Treyger family made their way to the states as they were offered religious asylum in 1990, while communism was destabilized under Gorbachev, and they were at-risk of being persecuted for their Jewish faith. The Treyger’s landed in Skokie, Illinois where Liza got her start in theater while attending Niles North High School and was on the swim team. She started her stand up career in 2009 in Chicago and has been making people laugh ever since. When she isn’t on set or performing on stage, you can find Liza following #scandoval, hanging out with friends, spending money, and rocking out to late 90’s/early 00’s pop and soul music. She is fluent in Russian, a Virgo, and an aunt. Liza currently resides in the LA area.
